Guttering is a very vital part of any roofing system. It’s therefore, of utmost importance to ensure that the type of gutters you choose for your home is good and serves you well. Not only does it need to efficiently collect water and channel it accordingly, but it also contributes to the appearance of your house. The question then is, do you really know the different types of guttering you can pick for your house?
Well, we have decided to discuss them here:
1. Round Guttering/ Half Round Guttering
When looked from the side, this type of gutters appears as a circle that has been cut in half. They come in two shapes. We have the one which has a shape that is completely circular. The other type is made by straightening the back. The benefit of this type of guttering is that they don’t require a lot of cleaning since they can self-clean, (with the aid of additional appliances) thanks to the wide diameter. Round gutters are also beneficial in the sense that they have the capability to collect huge amounts of water effectively. Which hopefully means fewer gutter repairs.
2. Box Guttering
As the name suggests, these type of guttering is fitted into the edge or middle of a roof. This option of guttering is suited for those who don’t want to be able to actually notice the gutter. They are made from materials that are very high quality like stainless steel or Colorbond. An emergency overflow must also be fitted on them to allow diversion of water when it is too much or in case of a blockage. Without the overflow, the water will fill the roof space, which not desirable.
3. Quad Guttering/D Guttering
In terms of popularity, quad gutters are the top housing gutters. This is because of their adaptability to new homes and can be perfectly used alongside the gutters that are in existence. They are made from materials such as galvanized steel, stainless steel, Colorbond or Zinalume. They are built with different profiles and shapes. They can either be slotted or not. The slotted type of quad gutters is suited for areas with high rainfall intensity due to their ability allow the overflow of excess water.
4. Fascia Guttering/ Eaves Guttering
This is a combination of a fascia and the gutter, forming a single system. This eliminates the need for the installation of metal or timber fascia. These types of gutters are directly installed onto the rafters of the roof. They come in a variation of colours and can either have a slotted finish or plain. Fascia gutters are also available in a range of profiles.
5. K-style Guttering
They stand out with a sophisticated and unique appearance. These gutters are designed with rigged crown moulding. They drain water perfectly and are not affected too much by the spill off or debris.
6. Square Guttering
These types of gutters are square in shape and appearance. They are available in hi/lo-square profiles. They are large and can accommodate water at high capacity. They are fit to be used in any home, irrespective of the style.
7. European Guttering
They are shaped like the round gutter type. The only difference is the bead that faces outwards. They are often made from waterproof materials, unlike the other types which are made of vinyl or plastic.
